RCN Scotland HQ (Edinburgh), 35 hours per week, 6 Month Fixed Term Contract
As part of the Communications and Public Affairs team you will work to influence MSPs and Scottish Government on behalf of nursing and raise the profile of RCN Scotland in the Scottish Parliament and the Scottish media. You will develop and implement parliamentary and media campaigns to meet the objectives of RCN Scotland.
This is a great opportunity to work within a small team to directly influence and shape health and social care in Scotland.
You will have regular contact with MSPs and parliamentary researchers, providing briefings on RCN positions and helping to focus attention on the issues that matter to nursing team across Scotland.
Using your extensive communication skills you will develop and deliver multi-media campaigns to raise awareness of these issues and engage our members, stakeholders, the media and the public.
Using your knowledge of the Scottish media you will ensure the voice or nursing is included in coverage of health and social care issues.
Working closely with colleagues in our policy team you will help shape the RCN Scotland’s responses to legislation including the Scottish Government’s proposed safe and effective staffing bill.
You will be part of the team providing out of hours media cover and some evening work/travel may also be required.

For this role you must be educated to degree level of equivalent and hold a relevant professional qualification in communications or a related subject. You will have excellent verbal and written communications skills and be able to analyse and present complex information in an engaging manner.
Experience of Scottish Parliament procedures and processes as well as influencing MSPs and working with the Scottish media is essential.
Knowledge of the health and social care sector in Scotland would be beneficial. Working as part of a team, you will bring innovation and adaptability to this role.
