Policy and Public Affairs Officer

At Holyrood, Stormont, the Senedd and Westminster, we have seen great success in positioning the British Heart Foundation (BHF) as the leading influencer in cardiovascular policy. With a wide range of challenges ahead we aim to ensure that solutions and healthcare services are driven and influenced through our insight and evidence. This new post will be vital to our ability to influence at a senior level across all stakeholders in Scotland.

About the role

BHF Scotland is recruiting a Policy and Public Affairs Officer to join our growing team. You’ll engage with key internal colleagues and potential partners, including Government, health leaders, charities and public health bodies. You will support the promotion of the BHF, helping to ensure that key decision-makers consider the BHF the expert on heart health and research.

You’ll also look for ways to engage key stakeholders with our work in their constituencies and areas of influence in particular our research, survival, support and grow income programmes.

A key deliverable for this post is influencing the Scottish Government and other key stakeholders on our influencing priorities, making cardiovascular disease a priority in Scotland; and contributing to ensuring Scotland has an environment which supports excellence in heart research.

About you

The successful applicant will have significant experience of working in policy and public affairs and have an excellent understanding of Scottish Parliament, Government and its institutions.

You’ll have a proven ability to write clearly, concisely and persuasively for political audiences and have experience of influencing multiple stakeholders and communicating at all levels both internally and externally.

With sound knowledge of the workings of government and governmental procedures in Scotland and an interest in and understanding of the external political environment and political developments as they affect the BHF you’ll have experience of working remotely within a large team and be able to keep up to date on the political outlook and absorb information quickly.

The successful applicant will join BHF Scotland at an exciting time for both the charity and heart health in Scotland. This position will play a key role in the strategic communication of the scale of BHF investment in Scotland and the impact it is having on the lives of everyone in Scotland and the UK.

We need an influential individual with experience of policy and public affairs to help us tackle Scotland’s biggest killer.
