Core Lead Public Affairs
Salary: £39,243 – £45,520
Contract Type: Permanent, full time, 36 hours per week
25 days holiday (27 days after 5 years’ service)
About the role
This role is responsible for making sure Camden’s views and priorities have a positive impact with our key stakeholders and help us to achieve our ambitions for the borough. You will deliver strategic public affairs and media plans that reach a wide range of stakeholders including MPs, Government ministers, the Mayor of London, third party advocates and the press.
We are seeking a dynamic communications professional to deliver technical and expert responses for all Council public affairs to help us achieve the ambitions set out in the Camden Plan. You will lead a highly planned public affairs strategy that builds awareness and support for Camden’s priorities across a wide range of stakeholder groups. You will be confident and capable of anticipating issues, spotting opportunities and promoting new ideas for public affairs campaigns, as well as developing responses to media stories to promote, building awareness and support for Camden’s position. You will have an excellent knowledge of who are stakeholders are, and the best way to approach and engage with them.
You will have:
- Strong writing skills, ideas and creativity, and the ability to provide strategic public affairs advice to senior staff and elected members
- Excellent understanding of communications, media and stakeholder engagement
- Experience of delivering targeted, evidence-based and evaluated public affairs and stakeholder engagement plans.
The successful candidate will be educated to degree level or have the relevant equivalent work experience. You will have an excellent working knowledge and experience of the public affairs landscape, Parliamentary processes, stakeholder mapping and relationship management. You will have a detailed understanding of political processes, timetables for key events and the main stakeholders and their roles. Your experience will include providing strategic advice to board level, senior officers and elected members to achieve desired outcomes. You will have experience in dealing with crisis communications and emergency planning.
