External Affairs Manager

Contract Type: Permanent contract – 35 hours per week (Monday to Friday)

Salary: £35,000 to £50,000 per annum depending on candidate experience

HMUK is Britain’s leading independent music charity and has provided help, support and opportunities to empower musicians at all stages of their lives for 97 years. HMUK’s mission is to create a sustainable future for all musicians and the industry by supporting those who work in the music industry through grants, health and welfare services, campaigning, creative programmes and targeted investment initiatives.

It exists to advocate, educate and provide information around issues which affect musicians and the industry that surrounds them.

Working with the Director of External Affairs and the Head of Strategic Communications, you will manage the planning, delivery and evaluation of Help Musicians UK’s national and regional campaigns and policies, taking the operational lead on strands of External Affairs work. Working with peer and partner organisations, you will enable the charity to implement best practice in campaigns, communications and music industry policy generally.

You will have a strong understanding knowledge of the arts and/or music industry, with experience of lobbying and policy making processes within the wider governmental sector. You will have the ability to use this knowledge to develop, implement, manage and evaluate high quality policy and campaigning plans that enables the organisation to campaign for the issues that mean the most to musicians and the music industry, both in the UK and in the nations and regions.

Demonstrable and significant experience of leading the design and delivery of impactful and timely reactive and proactive public affairs activity, that has successfully achieved policy-influencing objectives, will be essential to the role.

To be successful in this role, you will need the ability to work at all levels of the organisation, influencing internal and external stakeholders and media across many levels.
