Plan International seeks SRHR Policy and Advocacy Adviser
SRHR Policy and Advocacy Adviser (Maternity Cover)
Plan International is an independent development and humanitarian organisation that advances children’s rights and equality for girls.
We believe in the power and potential of every child. But this is often suppressed by poverty, violence, exclusion and discrimination. And it’s girls who are most affected.
Working together with children, young people, our supporters and partners, we strive for a just world, tackling the root causes of the challenges facing girls and all vulnerable children.
We support children’s rights from birth until they reach adulthood. And we enable children to prepare for – and respond to – crises and adversity. We drive changes in practice and policy at local, national and global levels using our reach, experience and knowledge.
Plan International’s ambition for its policy and influencing work is to drive changes in policies, behaviours and practice at international, regional, national and local level, so as to advance children’s rights and equality for girls.
Plan International believes that all children, adolescents and young people have the right to make their own free and informed choices and to have control over their sexual and reproductive health and lives, free from coercion, violence, discrimination and abuse. Girls and young women in particular are denied the ability to exercise these rights. Fulfilling the rights of all children, adolescents and young people is fundamental to achieving gender equality
The goal of the Global Influencing and Partnerships department is to increase our influencing quality and impact at the global, national and local levels by working closely with colleagues across the Plan International network. The department effectively combines policy development, advocacy, communications and partnership building to support delivery of our new Global Strategy.
The SRHR Policy and Advocacy Advisor will be located in the Policy Hub, but will work across both the Policy and Advocacy Hubs within Global Influencing and Partnerships. Building upon Plan International’s own programming experiences and that of others, you will lead the development and delivery of bold, evidence based policy positions, advocacy and campaigning strategies on adolescent sexual and reproductive health and rights. You will undertake detailed rights-based situational analyses and policy and political economy analyses, formulating clear policy change objectives and drawing on a full range of public affairs, campaigning, and strategic communications tactics and techniques.
The role has a global reach, with frequent contact and collaboration with Plan’s global and regional thematic advisers, Plan’s National Organisations, Country and Regional Offices, and Plan’s liaison offices in Geneva, New York and Brussels
With proven experience of working on children’s rights, women’s rights and gender equality at the global level you will have extensive experience of policy analysis and development and of translating policy into clear recommendations and messages for advocacy and campaigning. The ability to network effectively and build strong working relationships, collaborating and influencing at all levels will be essential.
