Post Graduate Placement – Public Affairs
This is a unique opportunity to apply your academic expertise to fascinating business questions. Taking responsibility for your own special project at Sainsbury’s, you’ll dive deep into a 12-month journey of investigation and exploration. The answers you discover will have a real, positive impact on the experiences of our customers.
Your individual project will see you working with our Head of Public Affairs to deliver a plan for stakeholder engagement and advocacy. It’s all about promoting the business interests and company values of Sainsbury’s Group across the globe. In particular you will focus on supporting and helping to maintain a contract management programme, designed to raise awareness of our values. As we continue to source products from secure supply chains all around the world, the impact of your project will reach throughout our key trading areas. Senior executives will rely on you to write high-level policy briefings, to support them as they promote our credentials in meetings with key stakeholders.
As your project progresses, you’ll build on and complement your existing interest in politics and public policy. You already have an understanding of Parliamentary and political procedures, as well as an understanding of current policy challenges that retailers face. Here, you will deepen your understanding of the current regulatory, legislative and political landscape, while learning how to engage senior personnel. You will witness the many ways our fast-moving retail business interacts with the public policy landscape, as you broaden your commercial awareness.
Thanks to the specialist knowledge and fresh view you bring, we’ll become better than ever. Your colleagues and line manager will play an active part in supporting your own development, too. You’ll enjoy a full induction plus access to training and learning, guidance and coaching. This is sure to be one of the most memorable projects you’re ever part of.
To be equal to this exciting opportunity you’ll need a relevant degree, Masters or PhD. Your academic knowledge and ability to apply it to this project question is much more important than any industry experience. We’ll expect you to be able to take ownership of driving your project forward, though there’s no need to lead other people. The ability to keep senior people here at Sainsbury’s informed of your progress is vital, so you’ll need to be a clear and engaging communicator.
